A plain and A-(Minus) are good grades to score in Kenya. There are courses which people believe are marketable but are not. If you pursue those courses, you will remain jobless for a long period of time.
Here is a list of courses that A and A- students select but end up regretting.
Bachelor of Commerce
Bachelor of Commerce is ideal for people who score B and C or even D. If you pursue the program, you will be among 1 million others competing for the few jobs available.
To survive, pursue CFA on top of Bachelor of Commerce.
Bachelor of Actuarial Science
Another course that may not give you a job in Kenya is Bachelor of Actuarial Science. I don’t understand why an A plain student will select this course and leave courses like Medicine, Pharmacy, Computer Science or Nursing. Bachelor of Actuarial Science is not marketable as you think.
In case you find yourself pursuing the course, make sure that you pursue a professional course in Actuarial Science or CFA. It’s very difficult to get a job with just a degree in Actuarial Science.
Bachelor of Arts or Science General
Bachelor of Science or arts general will not take you anywhere. You will not specialize in anything. You course will be about everything and no specialization. Instead of selecting this course, choose Bachelor of Teaching or Special Needs Education.
Bachelor of Financial Engineering
Bachelor of financial Engineering is another course which might not take you anywhere. This is not engineering course as Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. The course is offered by JKUAT and many people who pursued it are jobless and desperate.
Bachelor of Real Estate Management
Bachelor of Real Estate Management should be for average students. Anybody can manage real estate, even school dropouts. Unless you want to employ yourself, don’t pursue this course.
Bachelor of Procurement and Supplies
Another course that people think that it’s marketable is Bachelor of Procurement and Supplies. It will be very difficult for you to get a job with this course.
Bachelor of Economics
Economics looks like a good course but it’s not marketable. To get a job with this course, you have to pursue PhD and become a lecturer or get a first class and pursue a marketable professional course like CFA.
Bachelor of Business Administration
Bachelor of Business Management looks like a marketable course but it’s useless. This is a copy of BCom. You may become jobless for even 20 years before getting a job.
Bachelor of NGO Management
You want to pursue this course and work in an NGO but trust me,you will be jobless forever. Who are you going to manage in the NGO?
Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication
TVs and Radios are dying. Nowadays people get information on social media and YouTube. You can start your own YouTube channel even without a degree in journalism.
Bachelor of information and library Science
Libraries are no longer relevant. All the information is available online. Don’t pursue this course in the university.
Bachelor of History
Nobody will employ you with this course. You will tarmack until you get old.
Bachelor of Community Development
A very useless course. You will be lucky if you get a relevant job. Try to search for job online and see whether there is any company which has advertised for jobs related to this course.
Bachelor of Biology, Chemistry
Don’t do a course related to any of these courses.
Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Exploration and Production
Tullow Oil was the one exploring petroleum but it stopped. Don’t be convinced to pursue this course in any university.
Bachelor of Agriculture
You don’t have to be trained at degree level for you to do agriculture. Avoid this course by all means.
Bachelor of Environmental Science
You will never get a job in Kenya. NEMA and NGOs employ very few people.
Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry
We don’t have industries which process and manufacture chemicals. Utakwaman a degree yako home.
Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology
Where will you apply Biology in Kenya?
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology
Unless you want to become a lecturer, you will never get a job in Kenya with this course.
Bachelor of Public Administration
It’s another course to avoid like a plague.
