Bachelor of Electrical Engineering is one of the best degree courses to study in Kenya. With C+ and above in KCSE,you will easily get a university to admit you. The fee until you complete for self sponsored students is Ksh 500,000 to Ksh1 million while that of government sponsored students is Ksh 100,000 to Ksh150,000.

University of Nairobi a)   KCSE Candidates

The basic admission requirement shall be the minimum requirement set for entry into Public Universities which is a mean grade of at least C+ in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). In addition, candidates shall have obtained at least C+ in each of the four cluster subjects from any of the following alternative clusters.  However, a cut-off grade higher than C+ in each cluster subject shall be preferred if limitations of the number of places available for each degree programme versus the number of qualified candidates so demand. The said cut-off grades shall be determined and implemented by the School Board.

b)       A-Level Candidates

Candidates with a minimum entry requirement of principal  C passes in Mathematics and Physics and a Subsidiary level pass in Chemistry with a credit pass in English at ‘O’ level, except that for Geospatial Engineering, a subsidiary level pass in Geography shall also be accepted in lieu of Chemistry.

c)       KNEC Higher National Diploma (HND) or Equivalent

Candidates with Higher National Diploma in the following broad areas of study:

  1. Agricultural Engineering
  2. Civil engineering
  3. Electrical engineering
  4. Mechanical engineering
  5. Geospatial Engineering
  6. Any other approved subject area.

Candidates with a Diploma in Mathematics and Physics from recognized teacher training colleges.

  1. BSc/BEd (Science) degrees from Universities or any other relevant degrees 

Candidates with a Bachelor of Science or Education degree in Physics and Mathematics from recognized institutions or any other relevant degree from a recognized institution.

Exemption from any Courses in the Programme

  1. The point of entry into the programme for candidates with a KNEC higher national diploma or its equivalent in accordance with F1 (c) shall be in the second year of study.
  2. The point of entry into the programme for candidates with an ordinary KNEC diploma or its equivalent in accordance with F1 (d) shall be in the first year of study.
  3. The point of entry into the programme for candidates with qualification other than those outlined in F1 (a), F1 (b), F1 (c) and F1 (d) shall be approved by Senate on the recommendations of the School Board of Engineering and the College Academic Board and shall be based on the qualifications of the applicant.
  4. Where a candidate wishes to be exempted from any course or courses, he/she shall send a formal application to the Academic Registrar justifying his/her request and attaching evidence of the credentials which support such request.  Such a candidate may be required to sit and pass an exemption examination set and administered by the School, and approved under the authority of the Senate after payment of a prescribed fee.
  5. Based on the assessment of the exemption examination, the School Board of Engineering shall make its recommendations to the Senate.  The Academic Registrar shall communicate to the candidate, the Senate’s decision.

 

The Technical University of Kenya Diploma in Technology (Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology) together with KCSE Mean Grade C- (Minus) • KCSE Mean Grade C- (Minus) and Diploma in Technology in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology or its equivalent recognised by senate of TU-K or TEP Diploma in the above disciplines.
Murangá University of Technology The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Mean grade C+ with C+ in Maths, C+ in physics and Chemistry or Physical Science plus at least C+ in English /Kiswahili
Chuka University Mean grade C+ in KCSE with at least C+ in Math, Phys, Chem, Endl/Kisw, OR Diploma in Engineering or related disciplines from recognized institutions

 

Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology
  1. Kenya Certificate Of Secondary Education (KCSE) applicants:
    • Entry requirements are at least a mean grade of C+ and a minimum of C+ in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and English/Kiswahili.
  2. Kenya Advanced Certificate Of Education (KACE) applicants:
    • Two principal passes in mathematics and physics; and
    • At least a total score of nine (9) points at the KACE or equivalent; and,
    • At least a credit pass in Chemistry at the KACE or its equivalent.

Holders of other qualification recognized by the University Senate as equivalent to 1, 2, 3 or 4 above.

 

Strathmore University • A minimum KCSE grade of B+ (or its equivalent), with a B+ or above in both Mathematics and Physics.

• 6 credits at O-Level, A level 3 principal passes

• IB Diploma 34 points out of 45

• A distinction in the Strathmore University Entrance Exam

• Proven leadership skills in school and community and outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities are an added advantage.

 

Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology KCSE C+ (plus) Mean grade, and at least B (plain) Mean grade for the total score in the four KUCCPS cluster subjects, and the following minimum grades in the individual cluster subjects: Mathematics C+ (plus), Physics C+ (plus), Chemistry C+ (plus), Geography or Biology, or any group IV C+ (plus).

OR K.AC.E. or equivalent qualification from the examination body approved by the University Senate, with at least three (3) Principle passes of nine (9) points and above in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Geography, OR Ordinary Diploma holders with Credit pass in a relevant field shall be admitted in the second year of study. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field shall be admitted in the third year of study.

NB: All Diploma holders MUST meet the basic entry requirements at KCSE level or ‘KACE’ level.

Course duration: 5 (five) academic years, except for B.Sc. Water and Environment Management that takes four (4) years

 

Multimedia University of Kenya KCSE mean grade of C+ with a minimum grade of C+ in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry/ Physical Science, and either Biology/Biological Science or any of the Group III, IV, or V subjects or diploma in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering from Multimedia University of Kenya or KNEC diploma or Diploma in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering from an institution approved by University Senate
Kenyatta University Candidates must have passed K.C.S.E. or an equivalent examination with the following minimum grades:

  1. Mathematics: B+
  2. Physics: B+
  3. Chemistry: B
  4. English: B

 

Egerton University All candidates admitted to the program must meet the minimum university admission criteria stipulated in the common university entrance regulations. In addition, the candidate should have the specific Faculty/Departmental requirements and Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) cluster combinations.

The candidate must have at least a C+ in the following cluster subjects.

Cluster Subjects

● Physics

● Chemistry

● Either Biology or any group III, IV or V

● English or Kiswahili

Those holding qualifications equivalent to the KCSE or above from institutions recognized by Egerton University Senate may also be admitted.

 

Meru University of Science and Technology
  1. Be a holder of KCSE Mean Grade of C+ and above, with a C+ in Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science and Chemistry; or
  2. Be a holder of KACE with at least 2 Principal passes in Mathematics and Physics and 1 subsidiary pass; or
  3. Be a holder of Validated Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field with at least a PASS or related work experience. Diploma holders will be admitted in the second year of study or,
  4. Have any other relevant qualifications from an institution recognized by the Meru University of Science and Technology Senate.

 

Machakos University i)       KCSE Mean Grade C+ (Plus) with a minimum of   B+(Plus) or equivalent in Mathematics and Physics and B(Plain) in Chemistry and English;

OR

ii)     Mean Grade of C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of Credit pass in relevant field of study from a Recognized Institution.

 

 

University of Nairobi is regarded as the best university for Bachelor of electrical engineering. Another good university is Strathmore and Technical University of Kenya.
