Is Bachelor of Industrial Chemistry Marketable in Kenya

3

Industrial Chemistry is one of the courses offered in Kenyan universities. It’s not marketable at all. If you pursue this program, you will remain jobless for a long time. After completing your studies, you are expected to look for employment in industries which manufacture drugs and chemicals but in Kenya, only a few of such industries exist. You will graduate, drop your CV in industries and wait forever.

But there is still hope. In case you are admitted for this course, first ensure that you score first class or second upper and enrol for masters and PhD so that you can become a lecturer. Another alternative is to get first class and apply for a graduate trainee job. There are plenty of jobs for graduate trainees where they don’t consider what you studied in college. While in college, pursue professional courses like CPA, ACCA or CFA so that it can become easy for you to get a job.

You can also change your career especially if you have enough money to sponsor yourself. Pursue courses like Nursing, Medicine, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Pharmacy or Computer Science.

Alternatively, look for online jobs which are available abroad. There are plenty of remote jobs available. To succeed in this, you have to learn a skill, like content creation, video editing or web design.

Bottom line is that you can do this course and still get a job faster than graduates who pursued marketable courses. Sometimes it’s all about luck. If you don’t have any alternative, just pursue the course and hope for the best—but make sure you score first class or second upper.

If you don’t succeed in getting a job, start a business. Get into YouTube and create content or identify a small profitable business and launch it.
