Accounting and Finance is one of the best courses to pursue in Kenya. Below we list the best universities and colleges offering the course at degree and diploma level. We also list the requirements for various institutions.

UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
University of Nairobi Degree

  1. Holder of KCSE certificate with a minimum aggregate C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili or a minimum grade of B in bridging course offered in the University of Nairobi with at least a C- in the subject at KCSE;
  2. IGCSE six B’s including Mathematics and English and A Level 2 principal passes and 1 subsidiary pass
  3. Holder of a Diploma from a recognized institution and minimum aggregate of C at KCSE or O-level Division III;
  4. Holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics at KCE;
  5. Holder of KCSE mean grade of C- plus a Certificate and a Diploma from a recognized institution;
  6. Holder of CPA/CPS Part I, CIMA, CIPS, CHRP or equivalent professional qualification with a minimum aggregate of C- at KCSE or O-level Division III;
  7. Holder of a degree from a university recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate with a minimum of C- in KCSE or equivalent;
  8. Applicants whose language of instruction was not English are required to sit for TOEFL exam or provide a TOEFL certificate;
  9. Holder of qualifications deemed to be equivalent to any of the above.

 

Credit Transfer and Exemptions

  1. A student may transfer credits for equivalent course units taken from a recognized University subject to the following guidelines:
  1. The student shall complete the Senate approved credit transfer application form and attach supporting documents.
  2. The course unit taken by the student must meet the required minimum contact hours.
  3. The student must have attained a minimum grade C or equivalent.
  4. The transferred credits shall not be more than 1/3 of the total prescribed course units for the award of the Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting degree.
  1. Credit transfers shall only be applicable in Part I of the programme.
  2. A student who wishes to be exempted from any course unit shall follow the guidelines set out below:
  3. He/she shall send a formal application for exemption to the Academic Registrar by completing Senate approved form for exemption, justifying his request and attaching evidence of the credentials, which would support such a request.
  4. He/she may be required to submit to an exemption examination set and administered by the Faculty.
  5. The Faculty may, for exceptional reasons of academic merit, recommend to Senate the exemption of an applicant from a course unit without being subjected to an exemption examination.
  6. The candidate must have attained a grade interpreted by the Faculty as a passing grade in the course units for which exemption is applied.
  7. Exemptions shall be allowed only up to a maximum of 1/3 of the total prescribed course units for the award of the Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting degree.
  8. Exemptions shall only be applicable in Part I of the programme.

 

Zetech University Diploma

  1. KCSE aggregate Grade of C- and above or its equivalent as ascertained by Ministry of Education
  2. Mathematics D-
  3. Either English or Kiswahili D-

 

   

 

Africa International University Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Financial Management

Minimum requirement of Grade C+ must be attained at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) or its equivalent and additional requirements specified for each academic program, Applicants with relevant diploma from an institution recognized by the University Senate.

 

Kibabii University Bachelor of Commerce Accounting Option

Mean grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE and at least a C (Plain) in Mathematics or Business Studies, and C+ (Plus) in English Or 2 Principal passes and 1 Subsidiary at A’ Level plus at least a credit in English and Mathematics at O’Level. Or CPA/CPS Part 1. Or Diploma in Business related discipline Or CPA part I and II Or Higher Diploma in Business related discipline or CPA Part III.

Maseno University BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE) WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

KCSE certificate with a minimum mean grade of C+. You must also have a minimum grade of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili

Thika Institute of Business Studies Diploma in Accounting & Finance

KCSE D+

Technical University of Kenya BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ACCOUNTANCY

KCSE Mean Grade C+ (plus) with C+ (Plus) in Maths A and C+ (Plus) in Eng./Kis. OR • Diploma in Accountancy and KCSE Grade C- (minus)

Kisii University Degree

Mean Grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE with a C (plain) in Mathematics & English/Kiswahili OR Diploma in related field from a recognized institution.

Co-operative University of Kenya Degree

Have a KCSE (or equivalent) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+

Have a minimum of a C in Mathematics and English Language in the KCSE

Alternatively, you can have a minimum of a D+ in Mathematics and a C in Business Studies in the KCSE

Masinde University of Science and Technology
  • You must have a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE
  • You must have a minimum grade of C+ in Mathematics and English/Kiswahili

A-level

  • You must have a minimum of two principal passes and a subsidiary pass in the general paper
  • You must have passed with a credit in mathematics at O-levels

Diploma

  • You can apply with a diploma in IT from MMUST or an equivalent with a credit or distinction
  • You can apply with a relevant diploma recognized by the University Senate

MERU UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN APPLIED ACCOUNTING

  • Applicants may have a K.C.S.E. certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ (plus) and a minimum of C (plain) in both Mathematics and English
  • Applicants may have a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and subsidiary pass and a minimum of credit pass in Mathematics and English
  • Applicants may have a diploma in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the University Senate

University of Eastern Africa,Baraton Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting

·       Score a minimum of C+ (Plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)

·       Score a minimum of C in both English and Mathematics

·       Have a mean score of C+ or higher in each of the cluster subjects

·       Have equivalent qualifications if you are an international student or do not have a KCSE certification

University of Embu Bachelor of Accounting

 

The minimum admission requirement for the Bachelor of Accounting:
a)    Holder of KCSE certificate with a minimum mean grade of C+ plus a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili: or
