Admission Requirements

Certificate

Applicants must possess a minimum grade of D+ in KCSE or its equivalent.

Diploma

The minimum requirement for entry into a diploma programme is a C- (Minus) in KCSE or KCE Div 111 and above, or a Certificate awarded by a recognized institution, or their equivalent qualifications.

Undergraduate Programmes

Qualifications for our Bachelor’s programme are a C+ (plus) and above in KCSE or a diploma from a recognized institution.

Postgraduate Programmes

The entry requirement is a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a scale of 4.00, or a degree awarded with First Class or an Upper Second Class Honours. Those whose GPA is 2.5 or who have Lower Second Class Honours and a Higher Diploma with relevant experience may be considered if the degree or diploma is relevant to the field of study.

Documents required during application

All duly filled application forms should be returned with copies of relevant certificates. This should be accompanied by a nonrefundable application processing fee of Ksh. 1500 for graduate, Ksh. 1200 for Bachelors, Diploma and Certificate programmes. Duly completed applications should be returned to the Registrar.

Once the application is approved, you will receive a letter of admission to Scott Christian University, informing you that you have been accepted and outlining the procedures that you have to undertake to settle in as a student.

Tuition

Standard Government rates for tuition apply
Each student is expected to pay KShs.8, 000/= per semester towards tuition fees. For financial assistance from HELB see (ii) (a) below.

Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)

Financial assistance for tuition of KShs.8,000/= per semester is available from HELB (helb.co.ke)
Financial assistance of KShs. 34,000/= per year is available towards students living (accommodation & meals) and books, from HELB.

A practical fee of Ksh4, 500 per semester (which is not included in the fee structure above) is applicable to all Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management students.

All students must have a valid medical cover most preferred NHIF. The following hospitals accept NHIF outpatient in Machakos, kindly choose either of them. 1) Shalom Hospital 2) Machakos Level 5 3) St. David’s Health Care
Accommodation and Food

The University has boarding facilities, and the fee is as follows:

Accommodation is charged at KShs.8, 000 per semester. Accommodation is limited and is on a first come first served basis.
Food is available on a pay-as-you-eat basis. COOKING OF MEALS IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE ROOMS.
Fees, being discounted and at the government regulated rates, are payable in full at the date of registration

Internship fee of Ksh 17,500 is spread for 3rd year students. Graduation fee of Ksh 6,000 is paid at the last semester before graduation

Fees are payable by money order, bankers cheque, a cash deposit into the SCU Bank Account or direct deposit to the University M-Pesa PayBill Number. Cash or Personal Cheques including private company cheques will not be accepted.

No refund will be made for fees or payments not utilized. Fees shall not be pro-rated.

Tuition charge per credit hour

The total tuition fee for Diploma Programmes is charged at 18 credit hours for regular and 12 credit hours for School based as follows; regular day Ksh 2,280 per credit hour, regular evening Ksh 2,000 per credit hour and Ksh 1,800 per credit hour for School based.
Total tuition fee for Certificate Programmes is charged at 15 credit hours for regular and 12 credit hours for School based. A credit hour for Regular day is Ksh 1,800, Regular evening is Ksh 1,620 and School based is Ksh 1,800.

All students must have a valid medical cover most preferred NHIF. The following hospitals accept NHIF outpatient in Machakos, kindly choose either of them. 1) Shalom Hospital 2) Machakos Level 5 3) St. David’s Health Care
Accommodation and food (Optional)
Accommodation for regular is charged at Kshs. 8,000 per semester. Accommodation is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.
Accommodation per week for school based is Ksh 1,100.
Food is available on a pay-as-you-eat basis. COOKING OF MEALS IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE ROOMS
Fees is paid either in: full at the date of registration Or in Installments

Parents/sponsors who may want to pay in instalment must write and state so before the date of registration. A student is required to pay at least 50% of tuition fee, 100% of all other fee items during registration and the balance as requested on or before mid- semester break

Fee is payable by money order, bankers cheque, a cash deposit into the SCU Bank Account or direct deposit to the University M-Pesa PayBill Number. Cash or Personal Cheques including private company cheques will not be accepted.
