Universities accredited to offer Bachelor of Law in Kenya and admission requirements

There are a number of universities offering Bachelor of Law in Kenya but only a few of them are accredited to offer the course. Below we are going to provide a list of accredited universities for Bachelor of Law in Kenya and admission requirements:

UNIVERSITY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
University of Nairobi At least C+ in KCSE

Minimum grade of B+ (B plus) in English.

South Easter Kenya University 1) Be a holder of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.) with a mean grade of at least C+ (Plus) or its equivalent with a minimum grade B (Plain) in English or Kiswahili.
                 OR
2) Be a holder of a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (K.A.C.E) with at least three principal passes.
                 OR
3) Be a holder of a Degree from a recognized University.
                 OR
4) A credit passes in a Diploma in Law examination from an accredited institution.
Egerton University
  1. (A minimum mean Grade of B- (minus) at KCSE and a B Plain in English;
  2. or Three (3) principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent obtained at the same sitting, with an equivalent of a B Plain in English; OR
  3. Three (3) principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent obtained at different sittings, provided that the principals are of Grade C or higher; with an equivalent of a B Plain in English Language; OR
  4. An undergraduate degree in any appropriate field other than law and a minimum of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination or its equivalent with a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language; OR
  5. A diploma in law of a legal education institution accredited by the Council of Legal Education, with at least a Credit pass or higher.

 

Chuka University At least a mean grade of C+ (Plus) in the KCSE or its equivalent with a minimum grade of B (Plain) in English or Kiswahili; or -At least three (3) Principal Passes in Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education examination; or -A degree from a recognized university recognized by the Senate; or -At least a Credit Pass in a Diploma in Law examination from an accredited institution.
Riara University Mean grade of C+ (plus) and above in KCSE or its equivalent with a B plain in English or Kiswahili; or KACE (or equivalent) with a minimum of three principal passes; or be
holders of a degree from a recognized university; or be holders of a Diploma in Law from an institution accredited by the Council of Legal Education with an average grade
of B; or GCE (A Level) with a minimum of three principals.
Mount Kenya University
  1.  Mean grade of C plus (C+) in KCSE with at least B plain in either English or Kiswahili
  2. At least three principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate for Education Examination
  3. A degree from recognised university
  4. A credit pass in a diploma in law examination from an accredited institution

 

Strathmore University The University admission requirements for the law degree shall be guided by the Legal Education Act and its subsidiary legislation. Additionally, the University may from time to time make additional requirements of higher standards as it may be approved by the Dean of Law in consultation with the Director of Admissions. These standards shall be published to all candidates.
University of Embu Admission requirements
The minimum admission requirements for an undergraduate degree program in law shall be
a) a mean grade of C+ (Plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or its equivalent with a minimum grade of B Plain in English or Kiswahili;
b) at least three Principal Passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education examination;
c) a degree from a recognised university; or
d) a Credit Pass in a diploma in law examination from an accredited institution.
Maseno university A mean grade of C+ in KCSE Examinations as well as a B (Plain) in either English or Kiswahili. As we are looking to be a Centre of Excellence in Legal Education in the Great Lakes region, we will only be taking 50 students in our May intake,
Moi University Have a minimum mean grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)

Have at least a B in English or Kiswahili in the KCSE

Have at least two principal passes and one subsidiary pass in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE)

Have a first degree in any other discipline from a recognized university

Have a clear passport-sized photo

Have a scanned National ID (for Kenyan applicants)

Africa Nazarene University Overall Grade of C+ in KCSE (or its equivalent), B in English or Kiswahili, or its equivalent Or

Division II (O’ level), 2 principals & a Subsidiary (A’level)

 

Kabarak University KCSE C+ with B (plain) in English or Kiswahili.
Kisii University KCSE mean grade of C+ with a minimum grade of B (Plain) in English/Kiswahili or at least 3 principal passes in KACE or a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University.
South Eastern Kenya University
  1. Be a holder of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.) with a mean grade of at least C+ (Plus) or its equivalent with a minimum grade B (Plain) in English or Kiswahili.
    OR
  2. Be a holder of a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (K.A.C.E) with at least three principal passes.
    OR
  3. Be a holder of a Degree from a recognized University.
    OR
  4. A credit passes in a Diploma in Law examination from an accredited institution.
