Admission Requirements Law School
Bachelor of Laws
- KCSE with a minimum grade of C+(plus) and a minimum grade of B (plain) in English or Kiswahili (subject to the applicant passing oral and written interviews)
- KACE with a minimum of three principal passes; or
- GCE (A-Level) with a minimum of three principal passes; or
- Degree from an institution recognized in Kenya in addition to the minimum secondary school qualifications in above; or
- Diploma in Law from an accredited institution recognized in Kenya.
Other admission considerations:
- All LLB degree applicants undergo oral and written evaluations conducted by law faculty to assess their suitability for our rigorous law degree programme.
- The faculty encourages admission of non-traditional applicants such as holders of degrees and diplomas in fields other than law as well as persons interested in pursuing law as a complement to other training, so long as such applicants meet the minimum statutory and faculty requirements stipulated above.
Pre-KSL
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To gain admission to this programme, applicants must:
- Be holders of an LLB degree from a recognized university; and
- Have a referral letter from the Council of Legal Education indicating the courses they need to take to become eligible for admission to Kenya School of Law.
CERTIFICATION
Upon completion of their course of study, students will receive an academic transcript from Riara University and a Completion letter signed by the Dean of Riara Law School.
There are sixteen courses in total: Legal Research; Torts; Contracts; Constitutional Law; Legal Systems and Methods; Criminal Law; Family Law and Succession; Law of Evidence; Commercial Law (Including Sale of Goods, Hire Purchase and Agency); Law of Business Associations (including Insolvency); Administrative Law; Jurisprudence; Equity and Law of Trusts; Property Law; Public International Law; Labour Law.
PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS
- COURSE UNITS
The programme is made up of the four modules listed below. The first module is mandatory, but students who hold postgraduate in any of its course units may apply in writing for exemption from such course or courses. All other students will be expected to take all the courses listed in it. Students are at liberty to pick only the courses they need from the remaining three modules.
Admission into the University
- Students will be admitted to Riara University (RU) any time of the year, but they will generally report at the University at the beginning of each session, i.e. in January, in May or in September. Some programmes may admit students at different times or less frequently.
- All applicants must complete the application forms and submit them to the Academic Registrar’s Office.

- The application forms should be accompanied by copies of supporting documents as follows:

- The Registrar’s Office shall assess the candidate’s suitability for admission and seek concurrence of the School / Department.
- Where the University is in doubt, an applicant shall be directed to appropriate government agencies such as the Commission for University Education (CUE), and the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), among others, for recognition and/or equation of their qualifications.
- Upon verification of a student’s initial documents, the student will be admitted to the programme pending registration.
- Original documents will be verified at a date communicated on the admission letter.

Admission Requirements:
All students admitted to degree programme must satisfy the minimum requirements of Mean grade of C+ (plus) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or any of the following equivalent qualifications:
- KCSE C (Plain) and a Credit Diploma from an institution recognized by the Commission for University Education or Kenya National Examinations Council.
- KCE/EACE/Ordinary GCE C (Plain) and a Credit Diploma from an institution recognized by the Commission for University Education or Kenya National Examinations Council.
- KACE/EACE/Advanced GCE with a Diploma from an institution recognized by the Commission for University Education or Kenya National Examinations Council.
- KACE/EAACE Plus two Principal Passes.
- A Pre-University Certificate from an institution recognized by the Senate, with a minimum GPA of 2.50.
- A Professional Certificate from an institution recognized by Commission for University Education.

DIPLOMA IN PROCUREMENT AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (DPSM)

Course Duration:
The course takes one academic years to complete with academic programmes spread over Four Trimesters, to graduate with a Certificate in Business Management (CBM).

Master of Science in Data Science & Computational Intelligence
Admission Requirements for the Programme
The common regulations for postgraduate programmes of Riara University will apply.
In addition, for eligibility into the Master of Science in Data Science and Computational Intelligence
programme, a candidate must be:
- A holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer/Information Technology
with at least Second-Class Honours(Upper Division) from Riara University or a Second-Class Honours (Lower Division) with 2 years of working experience in a relevant field;
- A holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering/Computer Engineering /Information Systems / Information Technology/Computer Systems /Internet Security/Business Information Technology / Bachelor of Technology/Telecommunications, or related fields of at least Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) from a recognized University; or a Second-Class Honours (Lower Division) from a recognized University with 2 years of working experience in a relevant field;
- A holder of a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science/Computer Engineering,or related fields.

The unit cost is Kshs 23,750, excluding statutory charges. The total fee payable depends on the number of modules taken per semester.
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science(BCS)
Entry Requirements
All students admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Degree must satisfy the minimum requirements of:
- A Mean grade of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) ) and a minimum of grade C+ in both Mathematics and Physics or Physical Sciences; or its equivalent;
- A Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Level) with a minimum of two principal passes and a subsidiary and a minimum of a credit pass in both Mathematics and Physics.,or its equivalent;
- A Diploma from a recognized institution; or
- A Pre-University certificate from an institution recognized by the Senate, with a minimum GPA of 2.50
- A degree in a science-based discipline from a recognized university by the University Senate.
Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT)
Admission Requirements
Candidates for the BBIT programme must satisfy the minimum admission requirements for a bachelor’s degree. In addition to the general university admission requirements, the candidate will be required to have one of the following qualifications to be admitted to the BBIT:
- A mean grade of C+ in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and a minimum of grade C in both Mathematics and Physics or Physical Sciences or
- At least two principal passes at A-Level and a minimum of a credit pass in both Mathematics and Physics or
- A diploma or professional certificate in a computing discipline from an institution recognized by the University Senate or
- A degree in a science-based discipline from a recognized university Regulations for Credit Transfer Students from other institutions of higher learning may, on admission, apply to join RU programmes as transfer students. Those with relevant and appropriate credits may transfer some of the credits to join a degree programme at an appropriate level. Transfer students may apply to transfer some credits from their former institutions. Such credit transfer should fulfill the following conditions:
- A student must have official academic transcripts and documents to support the application for transfer.
- The student must be a bona fide student of the University from which he/she is transferring.
- To qualify for transfer credit from another university, a student must have attained at least a cumulative grade C or a GPA of 2.00 on a GPA scale of 1-4.
- A student should not transfer more than 49% of the courses required for graduation;
- The student must undertake all third year and fourth year courses in the university.
- Credits are transferable within 5 years of obtaining the results.
- Where a student is to transfer a course with a pre-requisite, such pre-requisite courses must have been covered in the university where the student is transferring from.
- Courses meant for an ordinary certificate requirement are not transferable to satisfy degree credit requirements.
- Credit transfer is not allowed in the Industrial Attachment \and Business Information Technology Research Project.

The cost of this course is Kshs. 102,550 per semester, with a total of eight semesters required to complete the program. This amount covers tuition fees only and does not include statutory charges, which are additional and must be accounted for separately.

Master of Arts in International Relations & Diplomacy
Admission Criteria
Eligibility for admission to the M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy programme, candidates must satisfy the requirements stipulated below:
- The minimum requirements applicable to candidates directly out of university and seeking admission into the programme:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Honours Upper Division from Riara University or any other university recognized by the Riara University Senate in fields within the social sciences and humanities including but not limited to international relations, international studies, political science, peace and conflict studies, anthropology, military science, sociology, philosophy, communication and journalism studies, development studies, law, theology, business studies (only those with international option), and economics,from a recognized university.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honours Lower Division from a recognized university with two years of relevant work experience.
MIRD RESOURCE PERSONS BREAKDOWN
- A Bachelor’s degree (or such other higher qualification) in any other discipline, plus a minimum of five years relevant work experience in an area(s) related to this programme. Such a qualification(s) must be obtained from an institution recognized by the Commission for University Education and achieved at a minimum of Second- Class Honours, Upper Division.
- For candidates who will not have attained a Second-Class Honours in their undergraduate degree, but will have a relevant ‘Pass” qualification, they should have, in addition, a Postgraduate Diploma, or a minimum of five years of work experience in relevant areas of engagement.
- Be fluent in written and spoken English. This should be ascertained through English proficiency certification at high school/secondary school level or any recognized post- secondary language centre.
- Alternative requirements applicable to candidates seeking admission into the programme:
- Diplomats and/ or Military personnel or other professionals, who have undergone training in operational and command courses that cumulatively correspond to undergraduate studies including Grade 2 staff course or Passed staff course “PSC” for officers in the rank of major and above.
This also applies to individuals with more than 15 years’ experience working with regional organizations or international institutions seeking admission into the MA programme. However, such individuals will be serving in senior position.
- Credit transfers may also apply in accordance with prevailing statutory provisions.
