Below is a list of courses offered at Daystar University, admission requirements, fee structure and contacts:

Daystar University fee structure

1) Tuition charge per credit hour:

  1. The total tuition fees per semester for Undergraduate programmes (except for Law and Nursing) assume 15 credit hours for both campuses. A credit hour at Main Campus Athi River is Ksh 6,640 while Nairobi Campus is Ksh 7,380.
  2. The Nursing programme tuition costs Ksh 6,875 per credit hour. The tuition assumes 16 credit hours for the regular Nursing programme and 20 credit hours for the upgrade programme.
  3. The Law programme tuition assumes 20 credit hours at Ksh 6,950 per credit hour.
  4. Master’s degree programmes assume 12 credit hours per Semester at Ksh 9,200 per credit hour.
  5. PhD programmes assume 9 credit hours per Semester at Ksh 17,625 per credit hour.
  6. Postgraduate Diploma programmes assume 12 credit hours at Ksh 6,640 per credit hour.
  7. Tuition fees for Diploma in Communication assume 15 credit hours per Semester at Ksh 5,610 per credit hour while other Diploma courses assume 15 credit hours at Ksh 3,525 per credit hour.

2) Accommodation Plan:

The University has boarding facilities at the Main Campus Athi River. Hostel fees per Semester are as follows:

a) Imani Hostel (men) Ksh 22,730
b) Patience (ladies) & Bethel (men) Ksh 18,940
c) Grace Hostel (ladies) Ksh 24,730
  1. DUPA Self-Catering Hostels(ladies) Ksh 25,620
  2. Self-Catering Hostels(men and
ladies, separately) Ksh 19,185

 

  • Medical Fee for the year is Ksh 17,500. All fulltime students must have a comprehensive medical cover. Those who are already medically covered must produce evidence from their medical service provider during registration in order to be exempted from paying the medical fees.
  • Transport charges for day scholar students:
  1. From Nairobi to Main Campus and back is Ksh 24,000. per semester.
  2. From Athi River town to Main Campus and back is Ksh 15,000 per semester

Please note: Catering, hostel and transport costs are optional. Medical fees and cafeteria charges may vary depending on the agreement with the respective service providers. Cafeteria services are available on campus on a Pay-as-you-eat basis.

5) Other one-time charges; –

  1. A Graduation Fee of Ksh 9,500 is charged when a student is due to graduate.
  2. Additional Orientation Fee of Ksh 2,000 charged to foreign students for City Tour.
  • Kindly note that the fees presented here are subject to review. Fees once paid are not refundable. Only students who have graduated shall be refunded credit balances in their respective student accounts.

Orientation fee for boarders is KES 7,500.

The acceptable modes of payment are banker’s cheques and direct deposit into Daystar University Bank Account A/C No. 01120065209800, Co-operative Bank, Athi River Branch. Direct deposit can be made at any branch of the Co-operative Bank. MPESA Payments via Paybill No. 209800; account No. is the student’s Admission No. VISA payments are also acceptable. The student’s Admission No. must always be quoted when making payments. Cash, Personal and Company cheques are not acceptable.

Daystar University Admission Requirements

Certificate

The minimum requirement for entry into Daystar Certificate program is: A KCSE mean grade of D+ (plus), 3 Credits in IGCSE or its equivalent.

Diploma

The minimum requirement for entry into Daystar diploma programme is: A KCSE mean grade of C- (minus), or a mean grade of C plain or one principal pass in ‘A’ levels or 4 credits or better in IGCSE, or their equivalent. For Diploma in Communication, a C- (minus) and a C (plain) in English are required.

Undergraduate Programmes

A mean grade of C+ (plus) and above in KCSE, or at least 4 credits in IGCSE with 2 at least Credit passes in A level/GCE is required.

  • For BA in Communication, a minimum of C+ in English is required. On admission, applicants with a B- in English will be required to do ENG 214. All undergraduate students with English C+ and below are required to do English 098.
  • For B.Sc in Applied Computer Science, a minimum of C+ (plus) or its equivalent in Mathematics and Physics is required.
  • All foreign undergraduate students are required to obtain a Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) qualification letter and a certificate of good conduct.
  • For B.Sc Nursing, applicants must have a C+ in Mathematics or Physics, Biological Sciences, and English. “A” Level candidates require 2 principal passes in Chemistry and Biology. Upgrade Diploma to B.ScN requirements include a KCSE aggregate of C (plain) and registration with NCK.

Postgraduate Programmes

The entry requirement is a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale, or a degree awarded with First Class or Upper Second Class Honours. Those with a GPA of 2.5 or Lower Second Class Honours and a Higher Diploma with relevant experience may be considered.

All foreign postgraduate students are required to obtain a Commission for University Education (CUE) recognition and equation letter and a certificate of good conduct.

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) – mean grade of C+ as well as a C in both English and Mathematics.
  • At least 2 principal passes at A level.
  • IGCSE 6 credits including English and Mathematics and GCE 3 B’s Exemptions.
  • CPA Part 1 holders OR Accounting Technician Diploma (ATD) Intermediate and Final.
  • Relevant Degree from a recognized university (Students holding University Degrees are eligible for exemptions).
