The monthly basic salary of an MCA in Kenya is Ksh 144,373. This amount is also applicable to Nominated and Elected MCAs. The get monthly house allowance of Ksh 50,000 and commuter allowance of Ksh 30,000 to Ksh 100,000. They also earn sitting allowance of Ksh 5,000 to Ksh 6,500.

Functions of MCA in Kenya
- Vet and approve nominee for appointment to county public offices as may be provided for in ACT or any other Law
- Perform the roles set out under Article 185 of the Constitution;
- Approve the budget and expenditure of the county government in accordance with Article 207 of the Constitution.
- Legislation as contemplated in Article 220 (2), Constitution, guided by Articles 201 and 203 of the Constitution
- Approve the borrowing by county government in accordance with Articles 212 of the Constitution
- Approve County Development Plans
- Perform any other role as may be set out in the Constitution
Amount of money you’ll spend to campaign for MCA position
To become an MCA, your campaign budget should be between Ksh 1 million and Ksh 3 million. Areas like Nairobi need more money to campaign than remote areas. If you spend Ksh 3 million to campaign, it means that you will take up to 3 years to recover your money.
